Overview
Pikachu Animated Boot Sequence (authored by Ao Jiao Xiao Zheng Tai) is a high-energy visual customization module that replaces drab manufacturer boot logos with a fluid, 60 frames-per-second animation of Pikachu unleashing electric lightning sparks.
Technical Architecture & How It Works
1. Structure of /system/media/bootanimation.zip
The animation uses standard uncompressed (STORE mode) zip structuring required by the Android bootanimation binary:
bootanimation.zip
├── desc.txt # Configuration: 1080 1920 60
├── part0/ # Introduction frames: Pikachu charging electricity
└── part1/ # Infinite loop: lightning spark oscillation
2. Execution Pipeline
- Kernel Init: The Linux kernel boots and mounts rootfs and vendor partitions.
- Overlay Mounting: Magisk/KernelSU mounts the custom
bootanimation.zipover/system/media/bootanimation.zip. - SurfaceFlinger Launch:
/system/bin/surfaceflingerstarts and triggers/system/bin/bootanimation. - Playback: The binary reads
desc.txt, pre-loads frame textures into GPU memory, and renders them at 60 FPS. - Handoff: Upon
sys.boot_completed=1, the animation stops and Android SystemUI keyguard appears.
Installation & Verification
Flash pikachu-boot-animation-v1.0.zip through your preferred root manager and reboot to enjoy the animated startup visuals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this animation drain battery on boot?
No. The boot animation runs exclusively during the few seconds between kernel initialization and display manager launch. It ceases execution completely once the system UI finishes loading.
Will it stretch on 20:9 or ultra-wide phone screens?
SurfaceFlinger scales boot animations preserving aspect ratio with clean letterboxing or adaptive center cropping, ensuring crisp graphics on modern tall displays.
